Dave Menicucci retired from Sandia National Labs as the head of the Energy Surety Program Office. The majority of his lab career was spent in Photovoltaics (PV), Concentrating Solar Power (CSP), Solar Industrial Process Heat (IPH), Solar Hot Water (SHW), and Solar Pools (SP).

Dave has a broad educational background, but his Master of Science in Engineering degree is most applicable here.

His solar expertise includes engineering, research, economics, modeling, testing and evaluation, technology development, system commissioning, technical assistance, and solar resource assessment.

In 1984 Dave designed PVFORM, a photovoltaic performance model that for a decade was heavily used throughout the globe. Dave's work in SHW resulted in a major new solar hot water technology and a US patent.

In the late 1980s Dave instituted Sandia's Solar Thermal Design Assistance Center (STDAC) with the objective of 1) Enhancing applications of solar technology, 2) Identifying and conducting research, and 3) Developing new technologies.

A world-wide webcast describes his 15 years of STDAC work. An image of the webcast's front page explains the controls to navigate the webcast video. Part 1 of the webcast discusses history. Part 2 includes case studies.

Dave was active in professional societies including ASHRAE, American Solar Energy Society (ASES), Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC), and IEEE. He served on SOLAR meeting technical committees and was the 1997 meeting's technical chair. He also served as member and chair of SRCC's Standards Committee.
